Online game theft earns real-world conviction (AP)
THE HAGUE, Netherlands – The Dutch Supreme Court has ruled that forcing a 13-year-old boy to relinquish a virtual mask and amulet in an online game amounted to real-world theft. The Netherlands’ highest court confirmed Tuesday that a boy who threatened the 13-year-old with a knife to make him drop the objects in the online fantasy game RuneScape was guilty of theft and ordered him to perform 144 hours of community service. The court did not release the suspect’s name, only his year of birth — 1992
Netflix Rebound On Shaky Ground As Stock Nears $133 Target
Netflix’s stock jumped as the company’s Q4 2011 results showed net subscriber losses reverting back to net growth. During the result announcement, management shed some light on its broader strategy including plans to be a pure-play subscription and not offering à la cart services, spending less on DVD marketing and continuing to invest more in original programming for its streaming services. The latter part of its strategy is somewhat influenced by Time Warner’s premium movie channel HBO, which spends about 40% of its budget on original programming
Romney lead over Gingrich up in Florida: poll (Reuters)
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney’s lead over rival Newt Gingrich edged up to 12 percentage points in Florida, according to Reuters/Ipsos online poll results on Sunday, as Romney’s front-runner status stabilized and Gingrich continued to slip. Romney, a former Massachusetts governor and private equity executive, was supported by 42 percent of likely Florida voters surveyed in the online three-day tracking poll, just down from 43 percent in the same poll on Saturday
